Years ago, an extensive project began to restore the architectural splendour of this 16th century building and breathe new life into La Fonda.
Archaeological digs unearthed one of the most extraordinary discoveries in Marbella in recent years, the nave of a 16th century church and the Hermitage of San Sebastian.
The three historic buildings constituting La Fonda date back to the early 16th century and encompass internal courtyards, patios and gardens. La Fonda´s teams worked meticulously to preserve the findings by reinforcing ancient walls and arches and restoring original features, including 18th-century murals and frescoes that were discovered.
Most of the original structure was retained, as were the two high towers with 360-degree views of Marbella and the grand columns, magnificent archways, and even ancient Ficus trees, around which La Fonda has been redesigned.
Combining these original features with modern design, plush furnishings, lush green vegetation and state-of-the-art technology throughout, La Fonda blends the past and present to mark its revival and celebrate its return as a Marbella landmark.
Our boutique hotel now exudes the essence of contemporary design but retains all of its original soul that honours hospitality, values outstanding gastronomy and cherishes lasting relationships.
